Did they ever sell any magazines with the banner "Watchtower and Awake"? I would think the new banner would attract more attention and discussion.

Changing of the Guard
by man in black ini work at a local community college, and for the past two years i would notice the witnesses had a table in a student area.. usually it would have 2-4 witnesses sitting there talking to each other, or yacking on their cell phones.. but the big attraction was the banner, it was long enough to cover two card tables end to end (12-15 feet).. it said "the watchtower and awake magazines" like that alone is going to attract students.... .
this afternoon i strolled by and noticed that they have a new banner.. white background with the words :why do we suffer" in bold letters.
i thought that was pretty strange..

I haven't seen any tracts or magazines in at least 2 years. They used to come in my neighborhood regularly but it's been at least 2 years since I've seen any JWs or their literature. What's up around Atlanta?

Talked to an OLD friend...he has NO desire to 'return' to the fold either!!
by babygirl30 inthere was a family in my cong that i was really close to...dad's an elder, mom's a pioneer, they had a son and daughter.
about 5yrs ago though, when i was still in my jw trance - the son married a non-jw and faded while the daughter was df'd.
due to my judgemental training, i 'shunned' both of them out of duty (not because i didn't care about them).

Malawi Congress Party cards
by Marvin Shilmer inunder watchtower doctrine, during the 1960s and 1970s witnesses in the african nation of malawi suffered terrible crimes against them for refusing to purchase malawi congress party cards.
how many participants here have ever viewed a malawi congress party card both inside and outside?.

Yes, Beks, the JW command here in the U.S. had practically an orgy of persecution complex over this (after they caused it themselves).
Yes, that's what I remember also.
I do recall hearing the horror stories at congregation meetings, and being terrified of how I would react when such persecution inevitably (per the WTS) came to the USA prior to the "imminent" Armageddon.
I recall that also.
And it was used to remind us how steadfast we had to be and that we would suffer similarly
Yes, I remember. And it was terrifying to a child or even a young adolescent.

Did you ever play this legalistic JW game?
by no lies please ini remember years ago playing a game at gatherings wherein the object was to get into the new system.
they would hold up a nwt or a knowledge book (or similar)and after clearing their throat would state the name of the book that they were holding and state that if you read it and apply it you would get into the new system.
after which you were told whether or not you made it into the new system by precisely repeating what you had heard.

I'm glad I missed this one. I'd rather read "Babylon the Great Has Fallen" aloud.

Will my grief ever end?...
by Lozhasleft inok so my youngest daughter (17) has been enveloped by her 'spiritual' older siblings and at the same time convinced that her mum is an evil disfellowshipped harlot.... its gutted me for the past 8 months ...i miss her dreadfully and worry so much about her...i thought she knew me better and that we had an unbreakable bond ....the things she's said to me in emails and texts have torn me apart and i cant keep going back for more...much as i love her i cant continue to be a punch bag...it would kill me to go through anymore abuse..... currently she's getting involved via facebook with some of my new hubby's family (not jws) ...i think there's trouble ahead..... loz x.

And this game was supposed to be fun? It sounds like some kind of initiation ritual.

HOW the Watchtower holds its members
by Terry induring the great depression in the 1930's people lost their jobs, banks closed and long lines formed in the streets called "bread lines".. you had to stand in line all day to get a free loaf of bread to feed your family!.
in a cabin in the appalachian mountains there was a family of four.
two children (a boy and a girl), a mom and a dad who had lost his job.

Do you remember the moment that you stopped believing that it was "The Truth"?
by freeflyingfaerie inwas there one incident or epiphany that struck you hard?
or was it a slow...gradual awakening (no pun)?.
my coming out of the jw coma (as i like to call it) began at a family rendezvous in the beautiful florida gulf coast.

I'm Very Encouraged...
by Cthulhu inby the fact that in under one day we have 2 new members on the board, hadit and thor.
that people are leaving that nutty religion and doing so in a rather public manner is a wonderful thing so far as i am concerned.
if you two happen to read this, hadit and thor, please know that seeing you here has made my day!.
